Comfy meets cool in this modern take on the traditional

This ultra-modern property is a new build and brand-new to the local rental market. It has been designed by a well-known Marseilles architect who has drawn inspiration from the traditional Provencal barn to give it generous proportions and vast living space.

La Bergerie is located within 10-hectare natural park, secured by a fence all around. The use of local and traditional materials in its construction – such as old roof tiles, aged natural stone for the floors (inside and out) and reclaimed wooden beams – make it both sympathetic to its environment and aesthetically pleasing.

Currently, La Bergerie sleeps six people comfortably in the main house (as well as two children in a small dormitory room), and can accommodate an additional 6 people in the three-bedroom, three-bathroom annex house, with its own large open-plan living area and kitchen. The two buildings are connected by a 50m2 covered terrace.

Nordic minimalism and calm

The 170m2 main house has a large master bedroom with en-suite shower room. Two additional double bedrooms share a bathroom with Italian shower and bathtub. There is also a separate guest toilet. The beds are all king-size (200 x 180cm), and two out of the three bedrooms can be arranged into two single beds (90 x 200cm).

Additionally, there is a dormitory room, which is great for two small children, with home cinema. 

There is air-conditioning throughout La Bergerie. A very large living area includes an open-plan kitchen, dining area and lounge.  This double volume space has lovely high ceilings, which are 5.5m at the highest point. Three-metre-tall wrap-around windows offer panoramic views of the Luberon. The large bay doors give access out onto the patio, garden and pool. These have full-length wooden shutters that can be closed at night.  There is also a separate mezzanine reading / living room.

The kitchen at La Bergerie is finished in wood and waxed concrete. It includes all modern appliances – oven, microwave, dishwasher and large fridge. There is also a separate laundry room with washer and dryer and an ironing table. The interior of the property is decorated in neutral, earthy tones and natural materials with a minimalist nod to Scandinavian design.

Spacious outdoor living

Outside you are surrounded by a pine and oak park and a view of vineyards. There is an expansive 300m2 of lawn around a generous 12m x 4m heated swimming pool (1.4m deep) with security cover. There is also a fire pit, which can be used on the patio. 

The main terrace faces West/North West so it gives you a lovely sunset view in the evening while you’re enjoying sundowners or dining out on the terrace. The environment is very, very quiet, with no neighbours nearby.

Nearby

The village of Rognes is within walking distance (800 meters) and you can find all shops there, including grocery, butcher, cafes, fruit and vegetables and a popular weekly market. There are numerous well-known wine makers in the area, including Chateau Lacoste, Chateau Beaupre, Chateau Beaulieu, Chateau Barbelle and Domaine Nais, which offer tastings and tours.

La Bergerie is about 10km from Lourmarin and 16km from Aix-en-Provence.
