A stunning villa-like house in the heart of Lourmarin

With a large pool (8.5 x 4.5m) set in a private garden, and air-conditioning inside, this is arguably one of the best village houses to rent in Lourmarin.

We are thrilled to offer this charming old village house, which is surprisingly spacious and can accommodate eight people comfortably. It is set on a quiet road on the outer edge of the village, with free public parking close by. Step out the front door into the narrow cobbled streets of Lourmarin with its excellent restaurants, cafes and boutique shops, as well as the outstanding market on Fridays.

The property has been respectfully restored to retain its original character, but has been finished to a high standard with contemporary comforts like wi-fi throughout (including in the garden!), air conditioning, high-quality beds and luxury bathrooms.

Interior

The accommodation at Maison de Savornin is set over three floors, with most of the rooms looking out over the pool and garden. The air-conditioned ground floor is all open-plan and perfect for entertaining and socialising. As you enter the house, you’ll find a modern kitchen equipped with oven, four-ring cooker, dishwasher and fridge-freezer.

From the kitchen this large space extends to the dining area with an eight-seater table alongside a huge picture window that you will want throw open on Summer evenings.

For the cooler months, there is a cosy sitting room through an arch, with comfy sofas and a working stone fireplace, or curl up in the small reading nook at the back of the house. Also on the ground floor is a guest WC.

On the next level up, you will find the TV lounge with an L-shaped sofa and smart TV/DVD with Orange TV and Netflix.

Keep going up the curved stone staircase to find the four double bedrooms and two bathrooms, set over two split-level floors. The house sleeps eight adults (and a child sleeping with parents).

The air-conditioned master bedroom is on the middle floor, with a 1.8m-wide (6ft) bed. A waist-high wall separates the sleeping area from its adjoining bathroom, which has a walk-in shower, twin basins and WC.

Also on the middle floor is the second bedroom, which has a 1.4m-wide (4.6ft) double bed and gorgeous outlook onto the surrounding countryside. The large family bathroom is a half-level up, and features a luxurious bath, walk-in shower, double basins, and separate WC.

The third bedroom can be configured as two singles or the beds can be connected together to form a 1.8m-wide (6ft) double bed.

On the top level of the house is a large air-conditioned bedroom with a 1.8m-wide (6ft) double bed. There is also a mezzanine sleeping area here, which has a long mattress and a pillow at each end, giving you the option of accommodating a child. This area is accessed via three small steps and has a protective rail.

Outdoor living

Heading outside, the pool at Maison de Savornin measures 8.5m x 4.5m (28 x 15ft), and is 1.7m deep, with steps at one end. There is a small area of lawn around the pool, and sunloungers are provided if you want to brave the summer sun. Alternatively, relax under the leafy shade of the large pergola that accommodates an outside dining table.

Use the Weber for lovely late evening barbecues and dine al fresco under the stars. Under the main living area of the house there is a summer kitchen with fridge, sink and dishwasher, as well as a WC and clothes washing machine. There is also an outside shower.

Finally, there is a large, secure store-room with a separate entrance off the street, which is perfect for bicycles and prams.

We had a fantastic week at Maison de Savornin in October. We were 7 adults and 2 small children (high chair and travel cot were provided which was much appreciated), the space worked really well for us. We were incredibly lucky with the weather and were in the pool every day. The house is beautifully designed with plenty of space, the beds are comfy and every little detail has been considered. Lourmarin itself is the most beautiful town, it practically looks like a film set! We had coffee every morning at Cafe Gaby and croissants from from the boulangerie up the hill. We scored some fabulous antique lamps from the flea market and enjoyed the most delicious lunch at Moulin. Can’t recommend the house and Lourmarin itself enough. We will definitely be back!

Spacious, well equipped villa in good location within the village of Lourmarin

We were a three generation family unit of 5, grandparents, daughter and twin teenage grandchildren [who were delighted with their own individual bedrooms].

Could not fault the facilities afforded by the property nor its location, with such a short walk to the village centre. Also a good centre to visit the other beautiful villages in the Luberon.

      Family Time in Provence
I spent a wonderful and memorable week in Lourmarin with my children and young grandchildren (ages 1,2, and 3) in Maison de Savornin. This beautiful home accommodated us perfectly and we appreciated the easy access to the lively village of Lourmarin. The house is comfortable with plenty of space to spend time together or to spend quiet time. The pool was perfect for cooling off during the warm afternoons. The well equipped kitchen and outdoor BBQ allowed us to have family meals together when not enjoying the great selection of restaurants nearby. I highly recommend and hope to return!

    4. Doug - UK says:

We had Maison de Savornin for all of September. It was a fab house for a long stay and worked perfectly for friends and family coming out to visit. The house is set up well for an extended group with plenty of spacious accommodation & equipment. Equally didn’t feel too big for much of the time when just 2 of us. The house is just delightful & great to have the pool on hot days. Very helpful housekeeper close by as well – even helped with an emergency dental appointment! A great location, easy walks into the village and and a good base from which to travel to other villages & towns.

    5. Kate - London, UK says:

This was literally the best two weeks holiday I can remember for a long time. The house was perfect. Spacious and accommodating with everything you might need to make your holiday easy and relaxing. Being so close to the village, with the incredibly helpful suggestions from the owner about places to eat or visit, it all just felt effortless. Being here with friends and family rekindled my love for the Luberon and all it has to offer. Without doubt we will be back. Thank you for sharing your home with us!

We just had the best holiday ever at Maison de Savornin in the town of Lourmarin! The village is so quaint and has very interesting shops, restaurants, and cafes. It is picturesque, and the Friday market is the best I have found in the area. You can get delicious food, gifts, and clothing. The produce is very fresh and tasty.

Maison de Savornin is situated directly on Lourmarin’s main street at the quiet end of the town. It is the only home on the main street with a large side lot allowing for a lovely big pool and private yard. We ate all our meals outside on the vine covered patio after relaxing by the pool in the afternoon. Our mornings were spent touring the villages in the area. There are so many charming spots within half an hour’s drive to wander around or have lunch.

The house is lovingly renovated with many original features but modern bathrooms and kitchen. The beds are all very comfortable and the furnishings are lovely. There are stunning view of the Provence countryside or village from very window. The main kitchen is well equipped and there is also a secondary kitchen by the pool, which we found very handy!

We can’t recommend Maison de Savornin enough! We are already talking about going back next year.

    7. Rebecca - Dallas, Texas says:

Our family of 5 stayed here, including 3 teenagers, and loved it. The proximity to the village is great. You are in the village, but on the edge, so it’s perfect. There are many great restaurants to choose from in Lourmarin. It’s also a great location to access other wonderful villages and sites. We also walked to the nearby castle and heard live music one night- be sure and check out the castle music events which are posted throughout the village. The owners were easy to work with and very responsive. We highly recommend this house.

    8. Grandpa - Vancouver, BC, Canada says:

The location on the edge of the village could not have been designed any better – 3 minutes to pick up the morning baguettes and croissants, next to the butcher. The limitation of cars made it so much more enjoyable to stroll along and enjoy all that the unique shops have to offer. Wood fired pizza next door, music concerts in the Chateau. Access to local farm produce and wines just south of town complemented the weekly market – everything was the best. We did not hesitate to try what is offered in the market, (boned and stuffed lapin – magnificent made with our own heavy cream sauce) So good we had it twice. We did many day trips to learn so much more about the region, the history and the relaxing way of French life. For our family of 6 we could not have picked any place that would have been better suited. Thank you for sharing your treasure with our family.

    9. Heidi Love & Dennis Jud - New Hampshire, US says:

The Maison de Savornin exceeded all of our expectations. From the ideal in-village location, to the luxurious ambience and attention to detail of the entire home, to the highest-quality and friendly management who served all of our needs—we could not have been more content. We rented this home for five months in the fall and winter. One of many aspects that I love about Provence in the winter is the ample sun, compared to much of Europe. This home takes advantage of all that sun with its bright, spacious rooms and amazing views. We enjoyed the huge picture windows of the great room and became totally ensconced by the fire in the cozy living room. Although we did not take full advantage of the garden or pool, its setup with the pergola and summer kitchen optimizes outdoor living and entertainment. Lourmarin in particular offers winter pleasures including its lively Friday markets, amazing year-round restaurants, galleries, and boutiques. The beautiful village gets dressed up in December with pine trees lining the streets and lovely overhead lights, and it is delightful to stroll the narrow, cobbled streets right from the door. With numerous restaurants, Café Gaby, an incredible bakery, artist Savornin’s atelier and Gerard Isirdi’s studio, the Château de Lourmarin, and the Friday market all just a short stroll away, the location is perfect. It is also convenient for day trips to other Provençal villages, Verdon Gorge, Aix-en-Provence, and the Mediterranean. Walter, the Manager and his wife M.C were delightful. They addressed every concern we had during our stay and were quick to respond to questions and offer suggestions to make our visit extra special. M.C runs a handy concierge service for tours, catering, renting bicycles and providing airport transfers. This was particularly helpful for us when we had visitors. From start to finish Walter and M.C. truly enhanced our overall experience. We hope one day to return to the Maison de Savornin. This is clearly a five-star home in a five-star village.

    10. Brenda Crane – Portland, Maine, USA says:

As a first time traveler to France, I could not have chosen a more perfect place to stay. Maison de Savornin is a lovely villa in the heart of Provence and offers all the comforts of home along with stunning views of the Provence countryside just outside its windows. I was traveling with two other friends so each of us enjoyed the privacy of our own bedroom. The bed was like sleeping on a cloud which made it very tempting to sleep the morning away! Every aspect of the villa from the well-appointed kitchen to the living room with a cozy fireplace, to the private outdoor garden, provided a relaxing and welcoming space for our group. Newly remodelled, every room is immaculate with tiled floors and pleasantly decorated. The spacious bathrooms accommodated us perfectly. The villa is situated in the heart of picturesque Lourmarin where the sights and sounds of this historical village easily lured us out into its narrow streets each day. There are many cafes, boutiques, art galleries and restaurants a short walk from the front door making it easy to explore. Market day was a highlight of my visit to Lourmarin where the streets become lined with vendors selling a variety of unique, delicious, and colorful items. Oh, and the Mediterranean is a short ninety minute drive from Lourmarin…amazing! Additionally, if we had any questions or concerns during our stay, Walter was readily available and delighted to assist us. Perhaps I will be fortunate to return to this magical place again one day. Thank you Maison de Savornin for a most memorable holiday!

    11. AM – Dublin, Ireland says:

We stayed in this wonderful property with our daughter, son in law and two teenage grandchildren over the mid-term break. My husband and I don’t do summer heat anymore and this time of year in Provence is delightful. Lunch outside on the terrace under a sunny bright sky and cooler evenings. The house was immaculate. It’s recently renovated, bathrooms are large and spacious with walk in showers. Beds were new & large. It’s very spacious and could easily accommodate the 6 of us. Two dishwashers, and a kitchen as well set up & organised as my own! The teenagers could retreat to the snug TV room away from the adults while we sat by the huge fire each evening. The location of the property is wonderful, 2 minute walk to pick up fresh bread in the morning, 3 minute walk to sit and have a coffee. We could peel away for an hour or two of people watching or browsing in the large range of shops and art galleries in the village. Lots of restaurants open each evening that we could walk to. We will be pushing the repeat button on this property again. We had a very relaxing time with our family, it’s an easy house to hang up your hat for a week or more.

    12. Susan Manfull – Portsmouth, NH says:

Lourmarin is my favorite village in Provence and we know it well, having traveled here for long and short stays for twenty years. This beautiful village house is, hands down, our favorite place in the Luberon to hang our hats. We stayed in this lovely home for several weeks in August and September. There are three in our family and we had several guests during our stay. First, the house is immaculately clean, comfortable, and well-equipped (barring a few kitchen tools and table linens which, I am told, were added). The common areas and the bedrooms are spacious and bright. The full bathrooms are very large and very nicely appointed. Considering the number of people the home can accommodate, there is adequate space to have privacy and multiple areas to socialize. We spent much of our time outdoors, lounging around the pristine pool and eating meals at the large table near the pool. The downstairs kitchen and toilet were especially helpful for this location. We enjoy cooking and found the kitchen a very inviting place to prepare our feasts! The cupboards are filled with very nice dishes and glasses for the crowd you might invite to your feast, too. The long table upstairs was great for our meals (as well as our work—I set up my laptop there for writing and was very inspired!). The AC was adequate and the gorgeous fireplace certainly encourages us to return in the colder months. Second, the location of the home—on the main street through the village—is ideal to soak up village life but it is also located at the quiet end of the street so it is easy to relax and sleep soundly. One can quite literally roll out of bed and be at the local Boulangerie purchasing croissants before the table is set. A Nespresso machine makes great espressos in your own vacation home to accompany your bakery goods. Or, a wee bit further is Café Gaby and several other cafés where you will find goods to quench your morning thirst and fortify you for your day’s adventure (and provide you with the best people watching in the area!). Third, there are plenty of things to do in Lourmarin once you can wrench yourself away from the pool. Consider the chateau, shopping, gallery hopping, a tour of the village filled with its fascinating history, or winetasting—all within walking distance. The Friday morning market is considered the best in the area and, during the summer months, the Tuesday evening market is a real treat. (Markets in neighboring villages are also wonderful.) Venture a little further in your car and there is a wealth of beauty and sight-seeing to satisfy even the toughest-to-please guests. Lourmarin is perfectly located to act as your hub during vacation. Finally, Walter, the caretaker, ensures that all your needs are met. He is a tremendous asset! Lourmarin captured our hearts and the Maison de Savornin is my top choice for a large family or group of friends. We loved it and continue to recommend it!

    13. AM – Kent, UK says:

We had a brilliant family holiday in this picturesque and tranquil village. Our accommodation was perfect with lots of space, comfortable beds and lovely bathrooms. The kitchen and dining area were ideal with a long table for big family meals in the evenings. We loved the outside space too. The pool was great for the children and the covered terrace was perfect for al fresco lunches in the shade. Having the ‘cave’ downstairs by the pool with a little additional kitchen and extra toilet and laundry facilities made it very comfortable. The owners have furnished the house stylishly and it makes for a very relaxing stay. The house is perfectly located and within walking distance of the bars, restaurants, children’s playground, churches and castle. We enjoyed the weekly market, exploring the lanes and the kids loved our morning visits to the boulangerie for fresh croissants and bread! Conveniently, there is a fantastic pizzeria a stone’s throw from the house… and our evening aperitifs at the local bar in the centre of the village quickly became de rigueur! Driving around the region is also easy and you can visit nearby towns (they all have lovely markets!). There are lots of vineyards too which would be great to visit if you’re into your wine and of course, the breathtaking views of the countryside make you feel completely peaceful. The owner provided great customer service and was very responsive and accommodating. We had a fabulous time, will be going back and would recommend it to others looking for a relaxing holiday in a truly beautiful part of the world!

    14. Harriet – Lexington, KY, US says:

We stayed in Maison de Savornin during a hot French Summer. It was amazing! The village of [Lourmarin] is stunning, with its weekly market where we bought local foods and gifts, beautiful walks straight from the door of the house, to the quaint, genuine little restaurants and bars, down little alleyways to sitting on the square. We even took local advice and went wine tasting at the local wineries. Then there was the beautiful house to return to, cool and organised. The lovely garden with its pool, was just fantastic to sit in and the kids loved having the pool to return to. We grilled and ate dinner out there almost every evening … it was truly lovely. The house itself has loads of space, but also with private nooks and crannies for those who wanted to escape and read a book. The bedrooms were lovely and the bathrooms were modern, with plenty of hot water. The kitchen and dining area are open plan (and very organised with everything you need to make delicious dinners with the market food you’ve bought!) so we would chat, while preparing. In the morning, the kids would pop off to the shops to get us fresh baked croissants and we would sit and prepare for our day. It was just so relaxing and beautiful! We loved our stay in [the] Luberon at this beautiful house!
