Aire de Ravel

Typical maison village renovated by architect owner, fully equipped, courtyard with pizza oven off the rue. Natural park location ideal for cyclists and hikers. Nearby small lake, markets and villages for the authentic Provence experience.

This property, formerly a shelter for animals with upstairs living quarters and dating from around 1798, has been very beautifully and expertly restored and professionally modernised by an architect who has cleverly used every inch of space to maximum advantage.

The ground floor consists of a lounge-dining, kitchenette and bathroom with shower and toilet. The home is fully equipped with refrigerator, stove, microwave, television and washing machine and all other requirements. The first floor consists of two bedrooms (the main with a Juliet balcony) each with double bed, and a second, main, bathroom.

Apart from being fully equipped, the entire home is exquisitely decorated and has a wood-burning stove downstairs. It also has an intimate outside courtyard, also ideal for secure storage of bicycles for example, with pizza-oven, a rarity in comparable townhouses.

The authentic property and shuttered thick-walled village house is accessible directly off the idyllic rue (street) and virtually on the same level, into the lockable gated courtyard.

A few steps bring you into the characteristic cross-vaulted, compact and cool main open living area. Behind the kitchenette in the corner is a small bathroom with shower and WC.

Upstairs you will find two bedrooms, one a bit larger, and the second more functional. A spacious shower room with WC and bidet serve this level.

In all, it offers a relaxing stay with more than basic facilities for your comfort.

Location

The village of La Motte d’Aigues is surrounded by superb scenery, and as you walk you’ll discover vast green hills planted with cherry trees, olive trees and vines. L’étang de la Bonde is a popular place nearby to relax; with its beach, restaurants and natural setting, it’s the perfect summer rendezvous. Enjoy the weekly market every Tuesday morning at Place les Cerisiers. There is also a night market every Thursday evening between June and August on the village square. Other markets to enjoy nearby include:

  • Ansouis: a traditional market every Sunday morning in the heart of the village.
  • La Tour d’Aigues: traditional market every Tuesday morning on Place Jean Jaurès.
  • Saint Martin de la Brasque: a farmers’ market every Sunday morning from May to October on the village square.
  • Lourmarin: probably the most famous market in the Luberon, every Friday morning.

This is the area of the Luberon with the most springs. It borders the southern foothills of the Grand Luberon massif at the foot of its summit, the Mourre Nègre. The house is located in the heart of the Luberon Regional Nature Park, a 15-minute walk from the village centre; bakery, grocery store and greengrocer nearby.

    2. Emma Wilkinson, London says:

We had a wonderful stay at Karin’s place and were lucky enough to explore so much of the village and local area. Some lovely walks through the nearby countryside and the village itself. The house has two beautifully appointed bedrooms and bathrooms plus a fully equipped kitchen and lovely living space – including the terrace that we spent a lot of our afternoons in, reading and basking in the spring sunshine. Highly recommend as a home away from home in gorgeous Provence.

    3. Jessica Graham, London says:

I’ve been lucky enough to stay at this gorgeous guest house on multiple occasions. It’s been tastefully and stylishly restored and has everything you need to relax and enjoy the gorgeous countryside surrounding the village. There’s a lake five minutes down the road which is lovely and refreshing on a hot summers day and only a short drive to quaint nearby villages including Cucuron, Lourmarin and Ansouis. Stock up on fresh local produce and then have an afternoon feast in the gorgeous courtyard as the sun sets, while you watch the village life go by.

    4. Derek Auret says:

I spent two wonderful weeks in this charming, authentic Maison Village in the peaceful town of La Motte d’Aigues. This home is ideal for two couples and provides a most relaxed atmosphere from which to explore one of the most beautiful regions of France.

    5. Katie Squire, London says:

Such a lovely guest house, situated right in the middle of gorgeous La Motte-d’Aigues. The village is quiet, offering complete solitude and the prefect base to relax and lean into local life. With so many picturesque towns nearby, it’s the perfect base to explore further afield or indulge in village life, from the comfort of the home. Highly recommend for anyone wanting quaint getaway – we will be back!
